Vice President Mike Pence stopped in Richmond on Saturday to campaign for three Republicans running for Congress: 7th District incumbent U.S. Rep. Dave Brat, 5th District candidate Denver Riggleman and 4th District candidate Ryan McAdams.

Pence met with Brat and Riggleman on the tarmac at Richmond International Airport and later at a private roundtable with area business leaders. But he primarily came to the area for McAdams’ benefit, participating in a rally in downtown Richmond and a high-dollar fundraiser, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

It’s a surprising focus because McAdams, an evangelical pastor, is running an uphill race against Democratic U.S. Rep. Donald McEachin in a district that’s not considered competitive for Republicans.
