Liberty University in Lynchburg announced Wednesday it’s hired former U.S. Rep. Dave Brat to serve as dean of its business school.

Brat, an economics professor famed for successfully defeating Eric Cantor back in 2014, lost in November to Democrat Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA agent.

Falwell, an early and eager supporter of President Donald Trump, said in a statement that “Liberty continues to hire brilliant people who bring with them a wealth of knowledge and life experience.”

Brat’s fellow academics have sometimes taken a dim view of his scholarship. He argues that religion accounts for the relative success of Protestant countries compared to others, an idea his peers have dismissed but might find favor at Liberty, an evangelical religious institution.
